Classic Car Addict is proud to present this beautiful 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 for sale in our Mesa, Arizona showroom. Back from some engineering R & R, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 lives for express-lane service. Like the rest of the Cherokee nation, it rolls on a new platform that began life as a Benz but was nurtured by a Chrysler team with a name that says it all. Good luck convincing apprehending officers that the SRT badge on the back of this Jeep stands for Slow, Reserved, and Timid, rather than Street and Racing Technology.
Inside, the architectural changes net a modest gain in front-seat travel, 3.1 inches of additional rear legroom, and a touch more cargo space. In keeping with Chrysler's current interior-upgrade initiative, the SRT8's cabin received a rich overlay of French-stitched leather and suede, genuine carbon-fiber trim, and elegantly polished metal-look accents. Navigation displayed on a 6.5-inch, tilting touch screen with a media hard drive is standard, as are an MP3 playback function and auxiliary media connections. A console-mounted Selec-Trac master knob commands the damping, stability ¬control, torque distribution, shift strategy, throttle response, and cylinder deactivation according to the driver's choice of five settings: auto, sport, track, tow, and snow. To facilitate expeditious marine ops, a Class IV receiver hitch and appropriate trailer wiring are now offered as a factory option. Also, worth playing with is a menu of “perform¬ance pages” in the info center, which is located between the tach and speedometer. The system can display a whole road test's worth of numbers—various acceleration figures, braking distance, cornering, and braking g—plus oil pressure and temperature, transmission temp, and engine hours.
As mentioned, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 version is unmistakable. Lowered one inch compared to the standard models, the SRT8 wears unique wheel flares, side cladding and a one-piece front fascia with new multi-function LED daytime running lights. The standard hood is replaced with a sculpted unit complete with functional ducts serving as heat extractors for the engine compartment. At the rear, there is a high-mounted liftgate spoiler to reduce drag and aerodynamic lift. A one-piece lower rear diffuser separates the new dual-sport exhaust pipes.
Before you question the rationality of a high-performance SUV, listen to the muscle-car-like engine noise of this Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. Look at the terrific, burly exterior design. And finally, sit inside and step on the thoroughly addictive throttle. The engine note under load is incredible, and full-throttle shifts are uncompromisingly fierce. This Grand Cherokee is a serious performance machine -- Chrysler says the SRT8 will hit 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and tops out at 160 mph. The best part, though, is that this could be your only vehicle. It has the grunt and moves of a sports car, yet seats five people in comfort and has a huge cargo area. Equipped with Brembo brakes painted in red and blue, the six-piston front calipers clamp on 15-inch front ventilated rotors while the four-piston rear calipers bite into 13.8-inch ventilated rotors. She rolls on Toyo Proxes ST3 295/45R20's.
