Classic Car Addict is excited to present this beautiful 1957 Volkswagen Beetle with just under 500 miles on it since the engine was rebuilt in 2023. The Beetle has always appeared to be a “fun” car. You don't see many of them at car shows, but there is no missing this, Beetle. The Volkswagen Beetle, or Bug, is a two-door, four-passenger vehicle designed originally by Ferdinand Porsche in 1938. It was one of the first rear-engined cars. It was designed for sustained high speed on the Autobahn and gave rise to the Karmann Ghia and Volkswagen Type 2 bus. In 1957, the rear window went from a split oval to a singular oval.
The VW retains a period correct original looking interior with light beige twin front bucket seats with a matching rear seat, Diamond Green painted dash, a crème steering wheel, light beige door panels, black carpeting, and the manual transmission long creme VW floor shifter. The dash shows an 80 MPH speedometer and a 5-digit odometer reading 497 miles. The VW features a Clarion AM/FM radio in the center and just above it is a single speaker with a nice chrome vent cover. All new German quality rubber seals were used for the doors and glass. When you open the frunk, you have a full spare tire, and the original tool kit.
The exterior is bathed in its original Diamond Green (paint code L412) with a recent full respray. This paint color gives us that nostalgic feeling. Although some of us weren't around back then, we know a good paint color when we see it! The VW made a simple design change over time, like the rear fender with chrome rockers and smaller running boards. The chrome gives it a nice retro look with a lot of class (not that it needs it).
The engine bay is very clean and features a fully rebuilt engine. It features a 1200cc engine with a 4-speed manual transmission that only has 498 miles. The 1.2-litre engine is called Typ 122 and has a displacement of 1,192 cc (72.7 cu in). The original postwar production VW air-cooled engine displaced 1,100cc and made 25 horsepower. VW soon enlarged the engine to 1,200cc and 36 horsepower. VW later boosted the 1,200cc engine to 40 horsepower. The VW rolls on Coker Classic whitewall tires, 165R15.
